The Hallways

Subject: The Hallways Wed May 08, 2013 7:03 pm

Stephen sat in the hallways, coughing from smoke inhalation. He leaned against a wall, trying to get better air into his lungs. Dammit. He coughed again.

Vortex exited the training room, an air bubble surrounding her and protecting her from the fumes. She dusted herself off as she walked down the halls cursing. She hated putting out fires. So much, that Vera passed the coughing guy on the floor. Her boots made a solid clunking sound while she backed back up. "Whoa. Did Torchy get you, too?" She asked calmly.

Stephen had cleared his lungs(at least somewhat), and looked up at Vera. "Well, let's see. I'm coughing up smoke, and I smell like a July barbecue. What do you think?" He snarked, coughing in between every few words.

Vera shrugged. "You could have been trying Will's barbeque. I hear there're hotdogs this time. Now be still." She concentrated for a long time, then forced the air to push out all of the carbon monoxide from his lungs. Vera leaned against a corner tiredly and yawned. "There."

Stephen took a few experimental breaths and stood up. "Thanks." He put an arm behind his head. "Who're you?" He asked with the slightest curiosity.

"Vera Stark." She offered the hand that was not scratching the area around the blades in her back to shake. "No relation to that other dude. Who're you?"

Stephen yawned and shook her hand. "Stephen Akashi. Nice to meet you, I guess." He yawned again and looked around.

"Nice name. You Japanese?" She asked when she heard the last name.

Vortex smirked. "That's pretty cool. I'm from the legendary state of Louisiana."

"Sweet." He nodded "So I assume you don't like water." Stephen smirked.

"Oh, ha ha." Vortex grumbled. "Make one mistake and suddenly you're pegged forever." She rolled her eyes and continued her walked leisurely down the hall, silently inviting Stephen to join. "I happen to love water."

Stephen walked along with her. "Just kidding. I expected the typical 'Oh hey, you're Japanese? So how's the radioactivity today?' stupid joke." He shook his head.

"Not all people joke like that." She said shortly as they walked passed a few others. Vortex nodded in greeting and continued. "It's rude and judgmental, whereas my humor is just rude."

He shrugged. "Mkay then." Stephen stopped for a second as his thoughts went back to his phaser. HIS PHASER. His hand instantly went to his holster. Gone. "Dammit!"

Vortex raised an eyebrow at him with an emotionless face. "What's up?"

"I lost my phaser." He scowled.

"The one from Star Trek?" She asked quizzical as she slowed to a stop.

"Well it was a model that I bought and modified. But it was cherished." He growled a little.

"Oh. Why not just make a new one?" Vera suggested.

Vera elbowed him in the ribs. "C'mon. It'll be fun! Plus, I have a few parts I could spare." She felt herself getting tired, so she touched the light bulb of a lamp. The light flickered then dimmed, but Vera felt a slight rejuvenation. Unfortunately most of the energy she drew went to the area around her, so that sucked sometimes.

Stephen sighed and smiled in the slightest possible form. "Alright then." He stood up. "I just need a plastic housing, like an old drill or something, a station to work, and several different parts. D'you have any idea where I could find any of those?" Stephen's brain started running very quickly and he started floating off the ground.

"Plastic housing. Drill...I think there's a big box someone was throwing away down in storage. Anything can be made into a usable part part. But the work space..." Vera hesitated before continuing. "There's a pathway leading to the outside hidden a little way down this hall that was once used as an escape route. There's a really long tunnel I kinda turned into Tech Heaven. There are open tables spread about for stuff I haven't finished setting up."

"Sweet." He grinned somewhat maniacally as he thought, brain racing at at least 250kmph.
